SSDs (Solid State Drives) the size of a postage stamp on the horizon

Japanese researchers from Toshiba and the Keio University in Tokyo fronted by Professor Tadahiro Juronda has stated his team has developed a way of reducing the size of SSDs by around 90 percent. He claims the technology also increases the energy efficiency by 70 percent.  This also makes them cheaper to manufacture. The prototype is composed ofone controller chip and 128 NAND flash memory chips. The estimated data transfer rate is said to be 2 GB per second, and Nikkei said that since the system is based on radio communication the production costs would be lower. With all this taken into consideration this could help SSDs become the standard for data storage in the future. The estimated time fir a commercially available product could be as soon as 2012, and by then technology may have improved them further.
