Intel refreshes consumer line of SSDs, drops price

Intel debuted the third generation of its consumer solid state drives on Monday, promising increased reliability while at the same time lowering the price by as much as $100 or more in some capacities. The 320 series drives would replace the popular X25-M drives which the company began to push in earnest last year.

Prices on average dropped about 30 percent, which came as a result of advancements in the manufacturing process. Overall drives are expensive, however -- about $1.80 per gigabyte -- which some analysts believe is still higher than most consumers would be willing to pay.

Just Bought An iPad? HAHA! Wanting to buy an iPad? Wait!

Transcript by http://www.newsy.com

BY ALYSSA CARTEE

You're watching multisource tech news analysis from Newsy.

All of your techie dreams are about to come true. The Wall Street Journal is reporting the iPad 2 is in production. The new highly rumored version of Apple's $5 million product will have a few improvements.

"The new iPad will be thinner and lighter than the first model ... have at least one camera on the front of the device for features like video conferencing, but the resolution of the display will be similar to the first iPad..."

Characteristically, Apple is keeping its mouth shut. The Wall Street Journal named its sources for the story as "people familiar with the matter." However, the tech world still takes the report seriously. The Telegraph says the Journal has street cred.

"The Wall Street Journal ... has a history of [being] well informed where Apple's products are concerned ..."

So if it's being made, when can you get your hands on one? Well, Apple hasn't said. But, as CNN reports, history suggests fairly soon.

"A quick glance at the history of the iPhone, which launches a new model every year, suggests that we should expect to see the iPad 2 right around the first anniversary of its predecessor's launch: April 3, 2011."

This news comes at a convenient time for Apple.

Motorola began its push for the Xoom tablet, taking on Apple with an unusual Super Bowl commercial. ZDNet thinks the production news couldn't have come at a better time.

"Add it up and the Apple iPad production news is perfectly timed. Just as you're about to ponder a rival tablet, there's a reason to hold out a few weeks-- the iPad 2."

Speaking of rivals - Apple is feeling the pressure.

MSNBC: "The iPad is 17% of Apple's revenues. The iPad really, really matters for Apple."

HLN: "But also because there is competition coming from the likes of Motorola, Dell, Samsung."

KPIX: "HP is also looking at coming out with its own tablet device. Probably based on Palm's web operating system after HP bought palm last year."

So when will Apple spill the juicy secrets about the iPad 2?

No, I'm not on Newegg.com's payroll...

..but I wish I were. Newegg.com is my go to place for electronics, especially computer equipment and supplies.  I buy probably around 95%  of my big ticket items at Newegg. Motherboards, CPUs, hard-drives, memory, I get from Newegg.  I even order my DVD-Rs there.  I usually pay around $24.00 with tax (sorry Tennessee residents, Newegg has a warehouse in Memphis, so we have to pay tax) but I get free shipping.  That's for a spool of 100 count Verbatims.  They are fast and very friendly.  They take pride in pleasing the customer (something that is being lost in this age.) If they do happen to make a mistake, they make up for it.  They are prompt to resolve the issue and will normally give you a credit for your next purchase. People ask me a lot of "Where to get.." questions.  I tell them Newegg.

Computer Port Identification

Experienced computer users know their computer ports like the back of their hand.  Beginners may not know the difference between a RJ45 jack from a RJ11 jack, complaining of, "...the end is too large to fit in that hole." This is a good article for the beginner to the novice user, it shows pictures of ports ranging from a serial port to PCMCIA/Cardbusess.  It also gives a brief definition of what the bus is used for. I really enjoy this little mini! I got it for its lite weight, small size and portability. It quickly surfs the net, watches videos and movies with out a hitch. It also does a great j0b for my blogging. Has built in Wireless and a webcam. For as small as it is, it's very quick. It has plenty of hard drive space, 160GB. Vga Out to hook up to an external monitor. I plan to pick up an external DVD-RW. This thing stays very cool to the touch. It does what I need it too, not only surfing, but runs Office 2007 and OpenOffice smoothly. I got the system for $329 with no tax. I must say that I am very pleased with this mini. It takes some time getting used to typing on such a small computer, but you will learn quickly I love the widescreen for movies and such. I wish it had an S-Video out so I could hook it up to my TV, but that's not too important. I have other laptops that can do that. When Solid State Drives come down in price, I plan to replace the standard hard drive with one, making it even faster. I would recommend this Mini as a secondary Laptop or if you have a desktop. I give it 4 out 5 stars. All and all for the price. it's an excellent Mini. aif you have any comments or questions pleae feel free to post!

CompuLap releases Fit-PC 2. It claims to be the smallest HTPC made and works on low power. The PC can be used as a nettop and a small-form factor media PC. The Fit-PC 2 uses an Intel Atom Z530 processor operating at 1.6 GHz. Nick Foster - Life as a Programmer

"You know, when you have a program that does something really
cool, and you wrote it from scratch, and it took a
significant part of your life, you grow fond of it. When it's
finished, it feels like some kind of amorphous sculpture that
you've created. It has an abstract shape in your head that's
completely independent of its actual purpose. Elegant,
simple, beautiful. Then, only a year later, after making
dozens of pragmatic alterations to suit the people who use
it, not only has your Venus- de-Milo lost both arms, she also
has a giraffe's head sticking out of her chest and a cherubic
penis that squirts colored water into a plastic bucket. The
romance has become so painful that each day you struggle with
an overwhelming urge to smash the fucking thing to pieces
with a hammer."
